Liu Jingzhen, chairman of China National Pharmaceutical Group Co Ltd (Sinopharm), recently led a delegation to Bahrain. They met with Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the crown prince and prime minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, deputy prime minister and Jaleela bint Alsayed Jawad Hasan, minister of health of Bahrain. They also paid a visit to the Chinese Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Crown Prince and Prime Minister Al Khalifa expressed his gratitude for Sinopharm's phase-3 clinical trials of the COVID-19 vaccine conducted in Bahrain. He highly praised the collaboration between the two sides in safeguarding human life and health and promised that all sides in Bahrain, especially the Bahraini government, would continue to support the cooperation. Liu expressed appreciation for the prince’s support of the collaboration, commended the constructive role played by Bahrain in advancing the cause of human health. He said he hopes that both parties will continue to strengthen cooperation and to jointly care for human life and health.
At the end of the meeting, the prince awarded Liu the Prince Salman bin Hamad Medal for Medical Merit.

Before the meeting with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Al Khalifa, Liu had a discussion with Deputy Prime Minister Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa. The deputy prime minister highly praised Sinopharm’s contributions to Bahrain's fight against the pandemic. Liu expressed gratitude for Bahrain's efforts in safeguarding human life and health. According to Liu, more extensive cooperation is expected between Sinopharm and Bahrain.

At the Bahraini Ministry of Health, the delegation was warmly welcomed by the Minister of Health Jaleela bint Alsayed Jawad Hasan and officials from relevant authorities. The two sides reviewed the achievements of the clinical trials and expressed gratitude for each other’s efforts. Liu introduced Sinopharm’s complete industrial chain and expressed hope for future cooperation. The minister of health expressed willingness to introduce more excellent products from Sinopharm to benefit the people in Bahrain, as well as those across the Middle East and North Africa region.

The ambassador said that the cooperation between the two sides during the pandemic significantly promoted the advancement of bilateral relations. Liu expressed gratitude for the ambassador’s appreciation of Sinopharm’s work and thanked him for his support. He said that Sinopharm would seek for more comprehensive, extensive and deeper cooperation with Bahrain.

The delegation also had an in-depth discussion with Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the chairman of the Kingdom of Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund, who promised investment cooperation with Hayat Biotech, a joint venture between Sinopharm and G42, a Chinese tech firm.
