Sinopharm chairman meets with Bahraini delegation

Liu Jingzhen, chairman of China National Pharmaceutical Group Co Ltd (Sinopharm), recently held a meeting in Beijing with a delegation from the government and business sectors of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The delegation included Bahrain's Minister of Industry and Commerce Abdulla Fakhro and the ambassador of Bahrain to China Mohamed Ghassan Mohamed Adnan Shaikho.

The meeting reviewed the friendly cooperation and significant achievements made during the COVID-19 pandemic and discussed potential collaborations in the field of medical care and public health.

Liu, on behalf of Sinopharm, extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, and Sinopharm will uphold the Silk Road spirit and contribute to the high-quality development of the BRI. 

Liu acknowledged Bahrain's significant role in the overseas clinical trials of Sinopharm's COVID-19 vaccines. He mentioned that Bahrain, being one of the seven countries where Sinopharm conducted clinical trials, demonstrated strong support with the active participation of over 7,000 Bahraini citizens. Notably, Bahrain was the second country globally to approve the registration and listing of Sinopharm's COVID-19 vaccines.

Expressing sincere gratitude for Bahrain's support, Liu conveyed Sinopharm's commitment to deepening and broadening cooperation in the medical and healthcare sector with Bahrain. He emphasized Sinopharm's dedication to contributing to the building of a global community of health for all.

Fakhro extended heartfelt thanks for the warm welcome and the support Bahrain received from Sinopharm during challenging times. He highlighted China’s role as one of Bahrain's most important trade partners and expressed his interest in practical cooperation in various areas. 

The minister emphasized the significance of localizing pharmaceutical production in Bahrain, with a focus on the medical and healthcare industry. He said he hopes Sinopharm will invest in and collaborate with Bahrain, bringing more products and technologies to enhance the healthcare standards of the Bahraini people. 

Shaikho also expressed his pleasure in revisiting Sinopharm and thanked the company for its support during the pandemic. He called for expanded cooperation in the medical and healthcare sector between the two countries, which would be a contribution to the development of Bahrain's healthcare industry.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Bahraini delegation, as well as key figures from Sinopharm’s headquarters and its subsidiaries.
