  • The Chengdu Institute of Biological Products was established in 1958. After several years of development, China established six major institutes of biological products.

  • In February 1960, road builders in Pinglu county, Shanxi province, suffered food poisoning. China Pharmaceutical Company's Beijing Procurement and Supply Station (the predecessor of China National Medicines Corporation Ltd) promptly procured medicines, saving 61 lives.

  • In 1964, renowned medicinal chemist Lei Xinghan led the furapromidum group to win the first prize in the State Technological Innovation Award.

  • Starting in 1970, to improve the production of Chinese patent drugs in the short term, the China Medicinal Materials Company allocated dedicated funds to upgrade three factories and expand and renovate four TCM machinery factories.

  • The preparation for the establishment of the Fuling Pharmaceutical Factory began in 1972. It was located in the suburbs of Fuling, Chongqing.

  • In 1978, the first SIPI postgraduate students attended their graduation ceremony.

  • Xu Wensi led the SIPI delegation to inspect Hoechst AG in 1978. In 1994, Xu was elected as one of the first CAE academicians.

  • In 1979, the World Health Organization confirmed that China had eliminated smallpox in the early 1960s. In December 1979, Zhang Yihao, director of the Beijing Institute of Biological Products, signed the certificate on the eradication of smallpox.

  • In 1990, Hou Huimin led research and development personnel from research institutes and enterprises to exchange ideas. In 1996, Hou was elected as a CAE academician.

  • A photo taken in 1990 shows Zhou Houyuan inspecting the production workshop of a pharmaceutical factory. In 1994, Zhou was elected as one of the first CAE academicians.
